I wanted to grasp elements from our world and somehow related them to a world that is similar but ancient. Before I created this piece. I brainstormed different ancient cultures that were prominent in their periods and still have relevance today. Egyptian culture has always been interesting to me. The art, religion, culture, and lifestyle are inspiring. The importance of the Pharaoh and the complexity of hieroglyphics are particularly attractive aspects of ancient Egyptian culture. I have always desired to learn more about them. My art pieces tend to focus on the use of vibrant and pale colors. This piece occupies itself in a lot of yellow and orange shades. I devoted myself to replicating ancient Egyptian attire. Egyptians were often dressed in gold and various ink markings. This piece was my attempt at reconnecting the present to the past. By capturing an ancient civilization and mirroring it against our present world.
This piece also explores the topic of the Trinity. The concept of a Trinity is three beings in one. The concept of a trinity is often explored in Christianity. I hypothesized and relayed that concept to the individuality of a person. There are many parts to a person and different areas of our lives. Things that we are successful at and different troubles we have, come together to make us whole. To make us a single person. “Only the now” explores the idea of the individual composed of many. I use certain expressions to differentiate between the ancient Egyptian world and our current reality. A visual representation of past, present, and future. They're all connected in the universe. They all take place in the universe which makes me relate the concept of time back to the concept of the Trinity. The Trinity is three bodies creating one being. In this scenario, we can look at the past, present, and future as three bodies to create one being, time. We could conclude that time itself is a singular existing body. It is why I emphasize in the title of this piece, that there is only the now. As I’ve explored individualism and myself mentally. I realize that even when I plan for things in the future. When I look at things in the past and become conflicted about things happening in the present. I always realize that the most important moment in the entire universe is the moment right now. The moment that is happening currently as you exist. The very moment that you are existing and the moment that is taking place right now is all there is. People are better off focusing on the present. On appreciating the small and big things currently happening in their lives. Then people wouldn’t be so anxious about the future or obsessive enough that they overthink the past. They could better their present and "the now" this way.
