To make this piece I had to reach into myself and pull out the unknown. Unknown even to me. At the time there was a specific feeling that I was having. It was a powerful feeling, enough that I decided that I needed to document that in a piece. I wanted to capture a feeling of safety but of overwhelming beauty. The sun is a beautiful and magnificent celestial body. Yet it blinds us whenever we look at it.
It reminds me of the story of Icarus. A man with wings enjoys flying but he gets too close to the sun and it melts his wings. I wanted to capture that essence but focus more on the beauty of the sun compared to its harms. My main inspiration for this was the relationship between the sun and the earth. Our view of the sun doesn't represent the enormity of its power. Every millisecond the sun sends out powerful and dangerous rays that could harm life. Lucky for us the earth has magnetic fields. The fields filter out the violent rays and take the positive rays to support life and keep the earth warm. My goal for Sunlight was to capture overwhelming beauty under an unexplainable power.
